TG4 Nominated for an SEAI Energy Award; the winners of which will be announced on October 16th.

TG4 has been announced as a finalist in the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland Energy Awards, one of 22 companies nominated across eight categories.

The SEAI Sustainable Energy Awards recognise and reward excellence in all aspects of energy efficiency and renewable energy. They recognise the diverse areas where energy innovation is being undertaken in Ireland. From large businesses to communities, they reflect SEAI’s key focus areas. TG4 has been nominated for its leadership in the public sector category, having demonstrated achievements in energy efficiency and decarbonisation over a protracted period.

Neil Keaveney, TG4’s Director of Technology says ‘TG4 is delighted to play its part in the national plan for the reduction of Greenhouse gas emissions and power consumption. This award nomination is an endorsement of our company-wide strategy for energy management and conservation. TG4 takes a holistic approach to energy conservation combining new efficient technologies, a local renewable energy approach and staff awareness and responsibility. To date, TG4 has achieved a 40% improvement in Energy consumption since the 2009 baseline.’

Now in their 16th year, the SEAI Energy Awards recognise and reward excellence in sustainable energy. Last year, entrants to the Awards demonstrated savings of €38 million through innovative sustainable energy projects. The top prize for Energy Manager of the Year went to Mike Pearson, Principal of Gurteen College, Tipperary. Mike is spearheading an ambitious renewable energy programme at the college. This project brought about the installation of a wind turbine, a solar electricity system, and a biomass boiler. All of these are included in the college’s education module for students. The biomass boiler is fuelled from willow grown on-site and provides 80% of the heating in the college each year.

This year’s winners will be announced at a gala event on Wednesday, October 16th in the Radisson Golden Lane, Dublin.
